AIR to GROUND RADIO OPERATOR'S COURSE 

(Radio Operator's Certificate of Competence)


This Course is to enable a person to operate a Ground Radio Station using an AGCS (Air-Ground-Communication-Service) and not be confused with the FRTOL (Flight Radio Telephony Operator Licence which is required to operate the radio in an aircraft).

This is a one day 'one to one' course that will consist of the CAA written and practical examinations which will allow candidates to apply for the CAA ROCC Certificate.

The day will consist of refresher training that will look at the core theory and radio procedures practice on simulated ground-to-air communications, leading to the CAA written and practical examination, this will then allow candidates to apply for the CAA ROCC Certificate using form SRG 1413.

Times: Arrival 9.30 am for a 10.00 am start. Finish: 4.00pm (approx.)
Cost: The cost of the examination is £180. (Please note an additional fee of £39 is payable to the CAA for the ROCC certificate).

The course, is hosted by an experienced Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officer (AFISO), CAA examiner, Flying Display Director and Display pilot, he will provide direction and training both for the theoretical and practical training required to sit the examinations for the CAA Radio Operator's Certificate of Competence (ROCC) qualification required by operators of ground-based radio equipment at flying sites and events where an air-to-ground radio service is provided.

The pre requisite for the day is a thorough understanding of;

CAP 452 'Aeronautical radio Station Operator's Guide' and

CAP 413 'Radiotelephony Manual', in particular elements that relate to air ground communications.

Any Supplementary Amendments or Instruments related to the CAP documents will be discussed on the day.

Note 1 – The ROCC “Air Ground” Course assumes the student will have a basic understanding of airfield and light aircraft circuit procedures hence a "pilot" background is best (but is not an essential pre-requisite under CAA guidelines).

 

Note 2 - The ROCC "Air/Ground" course should not be confused with the ROCC-OCS (Offshore Communication Service) which is required if you want to operate an Aeronautical Radio to talk to helicopters from a superyacht/ship or offshore installation.
